Frequently Asked Questions
Are AP Courses right for me?
Heritage High School offers many AP courses, so chances are, one of them is right for you. Ultimately, the best way to determine whether you are ready for an AP course is to speak with your teachers and counselor. Some courses have pre-requisites while others do not; therefore, you should find more information about a specific course by clicking on the appropriate AP Course tab and attending Heritage's AP information sessions.
Will I have to complete a Summer Assignment?
Not all courses have AP summer assignments.
Will I have to purchase materials for each of my Advanced Placement Courses?
Some classes may require the purchase of specific materials. Please contact the AP teacher for more information.
When are the AP Exams?
The AP Exams are normally scheduled to occur between the second and third weeks of May. Contact your teacher for the specific date of your exam or visit https://apcentral.collegeboard.org
Will I receive college credit?
Generally, college credit is more likely with a higher grade; however, each college or university determines which Advanced Placement courses and scores will be accepted. The accepted score may even vary within the same university, depending on your major. It is best to check with each school regarding acceptable AP scores.
I am interested in courses that Heritage does not offer, what should I do?
Speak with your counselor and teachers. A few courses not offered on campus, such as art history; European history; and computer science, are available through North Carolina Virtual Public School. There are others AP courses on NCVPS as well as dual enrollment opportunities that you may benefit from. See any counselor for more assistance.
